Position Overview: 

The PBI production engineer is responsible for providing engineering and technical support in all plant production areas, troubleshooting problems, and implementing process changes / improvements.

Essential Functions
The production engineer is responsible for completing the following key activities: monitoring equipment performance, process conditions, and for updating P&IDs and electrical loop sheets as needed; investigating process upsets to determine root causes and help identify corrective actions; working closely with maintenance to troubleshoot equipment problems and ensure that effective repairs are made; change or implement processes and equipment modifications to improve product quality; executing trial work to support the development of new products.  Will also need to communicate with vendors to size and spec new equipment.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
The production engineer must have knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment, the ability to apply statistical techniques to analyze process data, and the skill to utilize engineering principles and techniques to analyze production problems and identify solutions.  Other necessary qualifications include: the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization; an innovative and self-motivated approach to the job; strong written and verbal communications skills; flexibility and willingness to accept new challenges and opportunities.

 

Supervisory responsibilities
The PBI production engineer has the authority to give direction and issue instructions to the operators, mechanics, and shift supervisors.  This position has no direct reports.

 

Working conditions
The job requirements dictate that the production engineer spends a significant amount of their time on the shop floor working with the operators and mechanics, monitoring the process, and troubleshooting problems.

 

Minimum qualifications
The minimum education requirement for the PBI production engineer position is a bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.  Previous engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (2-3 years) is preferred.
