Upon arrival at 2101 Teakwood, we had a 1-story brick/veneer residence with lots of fire showing.
Capt. Thetford and myself pulled a 2' attack line from E112, and flaked hose out in front yard. We then got to the front door of the structure, which was already open, and got in position waiting for water to attack the fire. There was fire beginning to roll out of the top of the front door.
Once we had water, we began to advance into the front door. Approximately 8 feet inside the front door, the small hallway entrance opened into the living room. We were experiencing a lot of heat from overhead and in front of us. The fire was mostly free burning at this time. There wasn't much smoke and the visibility was pretty good. I had gotten as low to the floor as possible, and had the hose line and nozzle in my right hand and arm, with my left shoulder and the left side of my helmet toward the ceiling. At this time, I started feeling a burning sensation on my left shoulder and my left hand. Unable to make the corner with nozzle to work with the straight stream, I changed to a fog pattern. This enabled me to direct water around the corner without getting more heat. About this time we started making headway into the structure, and knocking the fire down, we worked our way to the garage.
Shortly thereafter my bell was ringing on my air pack. Capt. Thetford and I went outside for rehab and a bottle change. Once outside, I saw that my bunker coat had been burned on the upper left arm area. My helmet had taken a lot of heat on the left side and the back of the brim. Upon removing my bunker coat, I saw that I had a quarter-sized, second-degree burn on my upper left arm, just below the shoulder joint, and a small blister on my left hand.
